(33 views) - Windows Server 2008 supported turning SuperFetch on, but it appears to be gone in R2 Release Candidate. The service is gone. What happened to it, is its function built into the OS, superceded by another technology, or....? We use Server 2008 for certain workstation applications, and SuperFetch was an aid to performance. I am concerned about how they will run under R2.
(368 views) - When I tried to burn a DVD on a Windows 2008 R2 server, using Nero, I got the error message:>>>>
You do not have permisisons to burn to physical recorders. Please contact your system administrator....">>>>
I am a system admin so that message wasn't too helpful. I found, in practice that I had to set UAC to its lowest level -- nothing higher worked -- or I couldn't burn a DVD. I also tried right-clicking the Nero program icon, looking for a "run as administrator" option, but couldn't find it.
There must be a better solution than "disabling" UAC. For example, does UAC offer an "exceptions" list (similar to the way a firewall works?) that could be set by Administrators?
(76 views) - One of the new features of Windows Server 2008 R2 is the ability to park one or more CPU's cores if the server does not need all the CPU resources. This saves power. To enable core parking and to control it, a Group Policy or local policy should be used according severall blogs and sites. However, I have not been able to find any setting which actually configures core parking. Can anyone explain where and how exactly core parking can be set?
(58 views) - can't Windows 7 RTM install SQL Server Developer Edition ?? My comupter works on Windows 7 RC and with the RTM I had to do a clean installation on my 64bit laptop. I was able to install Office 2010, Visual Studio 2010 w/SQL 2008 Express. But, when I try to install the SQL Server 2008 Developer 64bit Edition (with UAC off) I get a "Invalid Handle ... exception". I download the 64bit SSMS Advanced for SQL Express 2008 and still can't get it to install.
